Topping the bill is Bob Mills a seasoned comedian with a career spanning decades, known for his sharp wit, storytelling prowess, and engaging stage presence. His observational humour, often infused with a touch of cynicism and irony, resonates with audiences of all backgrounds.

 

Opening the night will be the jaunty and engaging Danny Ward, winner of ‘Amused Moose Laughter Award People’s Choice’ at the Edinburgh Festival. Regular opening act on Mark Simmons theatre tours. Entertaining the crowds with his wonderful observations and amusingly smart comments, his laid-back style and extraordinary structure of words are a breath of fresh air.

 

Completing the line-up is the high octane musical comedian Ashley Frieze, with his entertaining quick-fire lyrics.

Giordano’s passionate tragedy stars tenor Piotr Beczala as the virtuous poet who falls victim to the intrigue and violence of the French Revolution. Following their celebrated recent partnership in Giordano’s Fedora in the 2022–23 Live in HD season, Beczala reunites with soprano Sonya Yoncheva as Chénier’s aristocratic lover, Maddalena di Coigny, with baritone Igor Golovatenko as Carlo Gérard, the agent of the Reign of Terror who seals their fates. Met Principal Guest Conductor Daniele Rustioni takes the podium to lead Nicolas Joël’s gripping staging, which will be transmitted live from the Met stage to cinemas on December 13.

Buster Keaton’s 1924 comedy classic is reimaged with R.E.M.’s alt-rock masterpieces Monster (1994) and New Adventures in Hi-Fi (1996).

In this sublime comedy teetering between reality and illusion, Buster Keaton stars as a film projectionist who dreams of becoming a detective.  He uses his limited skills when he is framed by a rival for stealing his girlfriend’s father’s pocket watch.  Keaton reportedly broke his neck performing one of the many dangerous practical stunts in the film.

Virginia Woolf defied literary conventions to depict rich inner worlds – her heightened, startling and poignant reality. Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor leads a luminous artistic team to evoke Woolf’s signature stream of consciousness writing style in this immense work that rejects traditional narrative structures. On May 30, the Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 Live in HD season comes to a close with a live transmission of American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s first opera, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth, the story depicts Frida, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met-premiere staging of Frank’s opera, a “confident, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker.
