Christmas Karma (PG)

Christmas Karma
Charles Dickens’s classic ‘A Christmas Carol’ is reimagined through a modern lens in this vibrant musical infused with themes of identity and inclusion, set in contemporary London. The story follows Mr. Sood, a wealthy, British Asian businessman who scorns generosity and exploits his staff on zero-hour contracts. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by three spirits who guide him first through his past as a refugee, then to open his eyes to his present and the damage being caused by his disdain for those around him, and finally to look upon a bleak future shaped by his selfishness. Through these encounters, Sood confronts prejudice, lost love, and the consequences of his choices, ultimately rediscovering empathy and the joy of giving, with a little bit of encouragement along the way from a jolly London cab driver. With a rich, multicultural soundtrack blending gospel, bhangra, rap, and pop, the film celebrates Britain’s diverse communities and the spirit of the season.

The Metropolitan Opera- I Puritani (12A TBC)

The Metropolitan Opera- I Puritani
For gorgeous melody, spellbinding coloratura, and virtuoso vocal fireworks, I Puritani has few equals. On January 10, the first new Met production of Bellini’s final masterpiece in nearly 50 years—a striking staging by Charles Edwards, who makes his company directorial debut after many successes as a set designer—arrives in cinemas worldwide. The Met has assembled a world-beating quartet of stars, conducted by Marco Armiliato, for the demanding principal roles. Soprano Lisette Oropesa and tenor Lawrence Brownlee are Elvira and Arturo, brought together by love and torn apart by the political rifts of the English Civil War, with baritone Artur Rucinski as Riccardo, betrothed to Elvira against her will, and bass- baritone Christian Van Horn as Elvira’s sympathetic uncle, Giorgio.

Royal Ballet & Opera- La Traviata (12A TBC)

Royal Ballet & Opera- La Traviata
At one of her lavish parties, celebrated Parisan courtesan Violetta is introduced to Alfredo Germont. The two fall madly in love, and though hesitant to leave behind her life of luxury and freedom, Violetta follows her heart. But the young couple’s happiness is short-lived, as the harsh realities of life soon come knocking. As intimate as it is sumptuous, La traviata features some of opera’s most famous melodies, and is a star vehicle for its leading soprano role sung by Ermonela Jaho. In director Richard Eyre’s world of seductive grandeur, the tender and devastating beauty at the centre of Verdi’s opera shines bright.

Comedy Nights at The Regal (18)

Comedy Nights at The Regal

Funhouse Comedy Club is back at The Regal, Stowmarket on Thurs Jan 15th for another night full of laughter.

Topping the bill is the affable Ben Norris who has appeared on TV’s ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ and ‘Mock the Week’ as well as being the voice on campaigns for Carling and Emirates. A natural comedian, his sharp mind-set and supply of clever lines keep his audiences totally absorbed.

Opening the night will be the pensively idiosyncratic Jay Handley, who covers a variety of topics combining observations, anecdotes and reality.

Completing the line- up is Nelson Gombakonba a wonderfully charming African comic, who shares his stories of living in ultra-white Norfolk!

Compere for the night will be Tom Toal with his distinctive appeal and laid-back delivery.
